Akeem Ayers eyeing Cal
Oftentimes, the key to a player's recruitment is not necessarily what he does on the high school level, but rather what coaches think he might do on the Division-I field of play.
This notion is especially true for student-athletes who are still physically filling out.
For Los Angeles Verbum Dei defensive end Akeem Ayers, his size might not be prototypical right now of a blue-chip prospect, but his talent speaks for itself. BearTerritory caught up with the SoCal rising star to get the latest on his recruitment.
Listed at 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, Ayers on paper has the look more of a safety than of someone who grinds it out on the defensive line. However, with offers from several schools already, including Ole Miss, Nebraska and Washington State, Ayers is one player who coaches see can project as a dominant pass rusher from the edge on the next level. Since he has the ability to take on more weight, coaches see no problem with recruiting Ayers now.
