Mohetau, Vasquez still on the team
As Texas Tech's fourth fall practice closed on Thursday night, rumors began to spread that heralded junior college-transfer Ofa Mohetau and sophomore Louis Vasquez had quit the football team.
Those rumors are incorrect.
RedRaiderSports.com spoke with head coach Mike Leach who confirmed that both Mohetau and Vasquez are still Red Raiders.
While specific details regarding the basis for the rumors are still sketchy, multiple sources close to the program have confirmed that the two offensive linemen walked off of the field midway through the Red Raiders' special teams period, leading some to speculate that they had quit.
Typically, during the special teams period, offensive linemen are given a chance to get water and take a breather. When Vasquez and Mohetau left to go inside the Football Training Facility, many assumed they were both just headed to the restroom.
An offensive line meeting previously scheduled for Thursday night was postponed so that both players could meet with head coach Mike Leach, offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh and others in hope of getting to the bottom of the situation.
While the rumors regarding Mohetau and Vasquez turned out to be just that, we have been able to confirm that sophomore offensive guard Cody Baker quit the team during Wednesday's practice because he no longer wished to play football.
