Irish want Newman to man the middle
If Notre Dame doesn't land nose tackle Brandon Newman, it won't be for a lack of effort.
The Irish offered a scholarship to the standout from Louisville, Ky., earlier this month and have kept the attention on the 6-foot-1, 300-pound defensive lineman ever since. Newman, who stars at Pleasure Ridge Park High School, said he's been in touch with Notre Dame defensive coordinator Corwin Brown just about every day since the Irish scholarship arrived.
"It's overwhelming to get this much attention from such a great school like Notre Dame," Newman said. "The other day (Brown) texted me that 'We really need you' and that 'I want a big stud in the middle and I feel like you're that guy.'"
