Perry Returns as King Pt. I
In one year, Detroit (Mich.) Martin Luther King defensive end Nick Perry went from having nothing to play for, to winning everything.
Embracing the Michigan state championship trophy at Ford Field, Perry became a Public School League pioneer. And while he'll graduate from King as football royalty, his journey to one dome stadium started in another.
At this time a year ago, Perry was looking forward to winter break at Detroit's MacKenzie High School. After accumulating 75 tackles and 11 sacks as a junior, Stags' defensive coordinator, Curtis Blackwell, decided to fly Perry south for the Army National All-American Junior Combine in San Antonio.
At least, that was the original plan.
