Scrimmage outsider: Offense excels
Auburn's first scrimmage of two-a-days went well. It was excellent, in fact.
Just ask head coach Tommy Tuberville.
Tuberville was the only Auburn coach who discussed details of the scrimmage with the media Saturday morning, for undisclosed reasons. Reporters also spoke to RB Brad Lester, DT Sen'Derrick Marks, CB Jerraud Powers and PK Wes Byrum.
Tuberville liked the on-field results of Auburn's most secretive scrimmage in years. He said both offensive coordinator Tony Franklin and defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads were able to use most of their playbooks in the scrimmage.
"It was a good start," said Tuberville. "When you scrimmage the first time, normally you don't do that much on either side of the ball - you just look for execution. But we've got a lot in on both sides, so we ran it today."
Tuberville estimated the scrimmage lasted about 100 plays - more than enough for Auburn's defense, which Tuberville said wore down after about 75 snaps.
Tired legs cost the defense, which missed several tackles, especially in the final minutes.
