Auburn? With just over a month left until Signing Day, Blake wasn't even considering the SEC team. However, after offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn was hired on the Plains and wouldn't take no for an answer when asking Blake to visit, the Texas receiver made the trip and then signed on the dotted line. AuburnSports.com spoke with Blake about his recruitment, how close he was to not even visiting the Plains, who played the biggest role in him choosing Auburn and much more in the second of our profile stories of the 2009 signees.
On his workout regime: "I'm running track right now. We have a regional track meet next week. I'm also lifting weights with my dad and running routes twice a week. My dad (former NFL QB Jeff Blake) throws me footballs every week."
You say you're at 195 now, how much do you want to weigh when you report to Auburn? "I'd say about 195 or 200, but put on a lot more muscle and lose as much body fat as possible. I just want to keep working hard and I'll get there."
When do you plan to move to Auburn? "I graduate June 4 and I'm moving to Auburn June 6. I'm looking forward to it."
You visited Auburn this past weekend for A-Day. How did that go? "It went great. I got to spend a lot of time with Philip Lutzenkirchen this past weekend and I'm pretty sure we're going to be roommates. I'm also good friends with Kodi Burns and Quindarius Carr. We all get along real well. We got a chance to hang out this past weekend and it went good. The offense looked good. I got a chance to hang out with Coach Malzahn, Coach Trooper Taylor and Coach Gene Chizik so it was a good visit."
