OVERVIEW The 2009 Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year and SEC Newcomer of the Year played the two-guard position for the Rebels, but NBA scouts feel that with his soft hands and court quickness, White has the potential to take over a team as it's facilitator at point guard. His time at Ole Miss lasted just two seasons, but he showed no shyness in parking on the perimeter to execute his shot.
In 66 games, White was successful on 123 three-point field goals, the 10th-best total in school history. He hoisted the ball up from long range 175 times as a freshman and his 178 three-point attempts as a sophomore tied Aaron Harper (2000-01) for eighth on the team's season-record list. He closed out his career 45 points shy of becoming the 31st player in school history to record 1,000 points.
White was a four-sport standout at Craigmont High School. He was rated the nation's 17th-best shooting guard and 80th-best prospect by Scout.com. ESPN.com rated him 95th overall and 20th among the nation's shooting guards. He was rated the second-best player in the state of Tennessee by TNPrepHoops.com and Hoop Scoop and the top prospect out of Memphis by MemphisHoopers.com.
Tennessee's Class AAA Mr. Basketball after a stellar senior season, White set the school career-record with 2,316 points, as he had his jersey retired at the school after his final campaign. He was a finalist for the Memphis Commercial Appeal's Best of the Preps Player of the Year award as a junior and senior.
A three-time first team All-State pick and three-time finalist for Class AAA Mr. Basketball, White helped Craigmont to a 24-11 record and district championship as a senior when he averaged a Memphis-area best of 27.1 points per game, adding 7.9 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 3.7 steals per contest. He put up 22.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.2 steals per game as a junior, as the team compiled a 27-9 record on the way to the district title and the school's first berth in the state playoffs.
In addition to owning the Craigmont career scoring record, White also holds the school marks for most points in a game with 50 as well as most 30-point and 40-point games in a career. He earned three different All-Star game MVP titles and won two dunk contests as a senior.
White excelled on the gridiron for Craigmont. He passed for over 4,500 yards and more than 40 touchdowns as a quarterback for the football team during his sophomore and junior years. He also competed in baseball and track and field.
At Ole Miss, White was voted Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year and named SEC Newcomer of the Year in 2008-09. The Freshman All-American started 21 of the 31 games he played in, as he was a finalist for the Cellular South Howell Trophy, which honors the best college basketball player in Mississippi. His 425 points scored are the second-most ever by a Rebel freshman. He shot 42.8% from the field, making 62 of 175 shots from three-point range. He also averaged 3.4 points and 2.3 assists per game.
As a sophomore, White ranked ninth in the SEC in scoring with a 15.1-point average, as he started 34 contests at off-guard. He posted 530 points while making 43.0% of his attempts from the field. He pulled down 160 rebounds (4.6 rpg), as he dished out 52 assists while coming up with 31 steals, leading the team to an NIT Tournament Final Four appearance.
On May 5, Mississippi head coach Andy Kennedy was informed that White was leaving the college basketball circuit and had applied for the 2010 NBA Draft. "I was informed today by Terrico and his family that he intends to hire an agent and stay in this year's draft," Kennedy said. "They are comfortable with the information that they have received regarding his draft status and therefore will stay in the draft. Terrico is obviously a very talented young man who will always be a part of the Ole Miss Basketball family."
"My family and I have decided that it is best for me to stay in the upcoming draft," White said. "This was a very tough decision to make. I would like to thank all of the coaching staff for giving me the chance to play at Ole Miss and for everything they have done for me over the past two years. I really love it at Ole Miss, and I will always be a part of the Ole Miss family. It really hurts for me to go, but this is what's best for my family." The last Rebel selected in the NBA Draft was Justin Reed, who went in the second round (40th overall) to the Boston Celtics in 2004.

SCOUTING REPORT Positives: Well-conditioned athlete with minimal body fat (3.5%), good wingspan (6'9") and standing reach (8'5"0, outstanding leaping ability (40-inch vertical jump) and valid explosiveness running the court (3.15 3/4-court sprint)...High flyer to the rim, whether feathering the ball into the basket or battling for the rebound...With his shoot first, ask questions later approach, he is more suited for the two-guard spot (lacks great size, though) and filled in decently as a point guard when injuries hit that unit (could play a few extra minutes at the point in the NBA, but see negatives below for reasons not to make him a predominant point man)...Has the quick wrist flick to fire out the passes to open targets and plays with a solid handle, doing a nice job of keeping his dribble low and close to the body (almost mistake-free, as he is not the type to turn the ball over often...Makes good decisions with the ball in his hands and while he is really a gunslinger, he showed good unselfishness distributing the ball...Might be a better fit off the bench as a combo guard, as he has the quickness to play in the open court...Quick and explosive slashing to the basket and is more known for his defensive skills than his scoring touch...Uses his reach effectively to alter shots and shows very good hands in attempts to steal the ball and take his man off the dribble in pressure defense...Stays in the face of perimeter shooters and gets to the rim instantly, thanks to his initial step...Still needs to develop some scoring moves, but elevates nicely to put the ball in on dunks...Tenacious rebounder who is quite effective on the offensive boards (scores well on put-backs)...Has made steady strides as a ball handler, showing quick hands to pass the ball to an open teammate, thanks to his basketball IQ (rare to see him force his shots or execute ill-advised passes)...Scores most of his points off screens, on drive-&-dish plays and when slashing to the basket...Has the sudden burst to easily separate from his man on drives to the rim...Has the lateral quickness to stay with the opposing guards on the perimeter... Good rebounder on both ends of the court due to his leaping ability...Inconsistency does plague him as a mid-range shooter, but appears very comfortable using either hand to make the play when attacking the rim...Shows outstanding stop-&-go action, as he does a very good job of utilizing moves to set up the defender and then slash by on the way to the rim.
Negatives: Is a shooting guard trapped in a point guard's body...Can serve as a ball facilitator, as he is very quick with his passes, but does have that shoot-first approach and despite seeing considerable action at the point his adequate assists average (1.9 apg for his career; 1.5 apg as a sophomore) leads one to believe that he should only be utilized at point guard for short stretches...Plays a strong inside scoring game, but despite his strength and explosion you'd like to see him drive harder and draw contact on the way to the basket (fails to get to the charity stripe often)...When he does get his opportunities at the foul line, he has a poor release, basically shot-putting the ball, which has led to his marginal production making free throws (68.0% shooter)...Also needs to get better lift and a higher release when executing his shot from the perimeter, as he seems to lack range from the three-point area, where he takes way too many off-balanced shots (made just 123 of 353 trey attempts, a clip at 34.8%)...If he had better consistency from the perimeter, he could be regarded as a lottery pick...Plays with an up-&-down motor (he disappointed some with his penchant to go through the motions when he was not involved in the play)...Even though he is a good passer, he will get tunnel vision trying to create his own shot and will generally be contested, forcing him to execute floaters when challenged in the lane...With his leg drive and power, it is confusing to see him back off and try to go for a jumper, as he has the ability to get in the paint but will generally settle for fade-aways...Also needs to do a better job of applying pressure defense, as he does not always close on shooters quickly.
Compares To: BONZI WELLS, ex-Houston/New Orleans -- Like Wells, White has caught the attention of pro scouts due to his athleticism and quickness. He is trying to become a point guard with mixed results. His ball-handling skills have greatly improved, but he goes through spurts where his off-guard mentality takes over and he feels he is better served taking the shot himself, rather than facilitating the ball. He seems to be regressing as a perimeter shooter and despite his good strength, he does not attack the basket as much as he should. He fails to draw contact to get to the foul line, where his free throw shooting is marginal. His ability to provide some minutes at the point could entice a team to take him late in the first round, but giving him control of a team is not advisable. Use him off the bench for a few stretches at each backcourt position is a much better way to get value from him.
