OVERVIEW
Harangody was the veteran leader of the Irish last season after he returned to the team in 2009-10. He initially declared for the 2009 NBA Draft but wisely decided to finish his college career rather than turning pro.

Despite missing five games with a knee bruise, he would go on to become the only player in Big East history to average better than 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in league competition.

Harangody also became the seventh player in Irish history to score over 2,000 points (ranks second on the career list with 2,476) in a career, joining Austin Carr, 2,560 points (1968-71); Adrian Dantley, 2,223 (1973-76); Chris Thomas, 2,195 points (2001-05); Pat Garrity, 2,085 (1994-98) and Troy Murphy, 2,058 (1998-01) in that illustrious group. He is also the first Notre Dame player in the 105-year history of the program to reach 2,000 points (2,476) and 1,000 rebounds (second all-time with 1,223) for the Irish.

He averaged 19.2 points per game as a senior, the seventh-best average by a Notre Dame player in school history. He is second in school history in field goals made (936), set the team record in field goal attempts (1,970), ranks fifth in games played (129), finished fourth for successful free throws (562), eighth for blocked shots (95) and 13th for rebounds per game (9.5 rebounds per game).

Harangody was also a four-time letter-winner at Andrean High School. He guided the team to a 67-29 record, leading the Fighting 59ers to two Lake Athletic Conference championships in 2005 and '06 and to three sectional crowns. The two-time All-State and All-Conference selection finished his career with 1,527 points for an 18.8 scoring average and 850 rebounds (10.5 rebounds per game) while playing in 81 games.

As a senior, Harangody averaged 23.6 points and 12.8 rebounds per game. He was twice named Post Tribune Northwest Indiana Player of the Year, earning the honor in both '05 and '06, in addition to being a two-time Indiana Associated Press all-state honoree.

He also was two-time All-State selection by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and was named as one of the Tremendous 26 by the Indiana High School Basketball Guide. The 2005 The Times Northwest Indiana Player of the Year was Andrean's top scorer and rebounder during his junior season as he averaged 23.2 points and 12.3 rebounds per game.

Harangody played in the Indiana All-Star Game following his senior season. He also competed in the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star Game and helped lead Indiana to two wins in the series. In the first game at E.A. Diddle Arena, he led the Hoosier All- Stars with 16 points and 14 rebounds in 90-74 victory and then followed that performance up with 12 points and nine rebounds in 94-66 in second contest that was played at Conseco Field House.

As a true freshman at Notre Dame in 2006-07, Harangody was named to the Big East Conference All-Rookie team and was a three-time league rookie-of-the-week pick. He played in all 32 contests and earned starts in the final 16 games, as he finished as the fourth leading scorer (11.2 points per game) and second-leading rebounder (6.2). He reached double figures in 22 contests, posting seven double-doubles and led the Irish in scoring on four occasions.

In 2007-08, Harangody earned second-team consensus All-American honors and became the third player in team history to be named Big East Player of the Year. The John R. Wooden Award finalist averaged a team-leading 20.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per game and was one of ten players in the last decade to average 20 points and 10 rebounds. He was also the second player in conference history to lead the Big East in both scoring (23.3) and rebounding (11.3) in the same season.

Harangody again earned All-American and All-Big East Conference honors as a junior. He started all 34 games in which he played, as his 792 points ranked sixth all-time in school history for a single season. He averaged career-best totals with 23.3 points per game and 11.8 rebounds per game, leading the team in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots (31).

He also led the Irish in points 27 times and in rebounding on 30 occasions. His 401 rebounds ranked sixth all-time in Irish history and he was the only player in the NCAA Division I to rank among the top 10 in both scoring and rebounding (ranked sixth in rebounding and eighth in scoring). He registered 25 double-doubles and scored 30-plus points on six occasions.

As a senior, Harangody missed five games with a bone bruise near his knee, but was still an All-American and All-Big East choice. He again paced the Irish in scoring (21.8 points per game) and rebounds (9.1 rebounds per game). He scored in double figures in all but two of the 30 games he played in, producing 13 double-double performances.

He has a prized work ethic and can do a little bit of everything well but nothing great. He lacks top athleticism and his marginal lateral agility will limit his defensive assignments. He checked in two inches shorter than advertised at the Chicago pre-draft camp and while he put up good weight-room numbers, he's going to give up more than a few inches and significant bulk to post players and power forwards in the NBA. But like Hansbrough, he's a blue-collar, lunch-pail type that would be a nice asset coming off the bench, if he can improve his athleticism.
