We're getting to the heart of the schedule now.

Not as many out-of-state travel games. And not as many byes. Just solid smash-mouth football.

All but six teams in the RivalsHigh Top 100 are in action this week. And all but 21 play on Friday night.

Looking for the big winners and losers? We've got them, all weekend long. So check back all weekend. As the games come in, we'll get them up.

Friday's upsets and surprises:

  • No. 22 Abilene (Texas) High lost in overtime to Longview (Texas) High, 32-31. Abilene scored a touchdown late to tie the game and scored first in overtime. After scoring a touchdown of its own in OT, Longview faked the PAT, went for the 2-point conversion and the win, and got it.

  • No. 76 Auburn (Ala.) High was knocked off at Oxford (Ala.) High, 35-23. The Opelika-Auburn News reports that it's Auburn's first regular-season loss since Oct. 26, 2007. It was also the 100th career victory for Oxford head coach John Grass.

  • In Tennessee, Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth led No. 61 Smyrna (Tenn.) High, 16-14 at the end of the third quarter, before scoring a long touchdown late to pull away at home for the upset win, 30-14.

  • It was a thrilling end in California as a 47-yard field goal with less than a minute remaining in regulation lifted Valley Center (Calif.) High over No. 67 Los Alamitos (Calif.) High, 31-28. The game was tied 14-14 at the half before Valley Center took the lead in the second half. Los Alamitos tied the game at 28-28 with under 3 minutes to play on an 81-yard touchdown pass, only to surrender the game-winning kick.
