How good can he be and how high can he fly as a recruit?  The story of David Ajamu has been an intriguing one ever since he broke onto the scene at the Northwest Elite Football Camp (Gesser Football) in early June.  After spending the day at The Opening where 150 of the best stars in the Nation are at we had to ponder.

Are these guys with an average of 20 major offers each better then he is?  At 6'5" and 238 pounds he would be one of the biggest receiver targets there.  And he has proven he can run and catch.  In three major camps now he has shined brightly enough to take all Camp and MVP honors.  In fact we have not seen a bigger more agile athlete anywhere in the Pacific Northwest this year.

So when David called just now to tell us of his latest offer, this one from Nevada, we were not surprised.  Several analysts of National acclaim asked us over at The Opening who if anyone was under the radar.  His name was mentioned 3 or 4 times today already in discussions.

So why is he just now heating up?  Well his film came out a month ago.   What he is doing on that film is very impressive.  But it lacks some in production value.  There has been no "Marketing" aspect about what is happening to Ajamu.  No"Hype".  He has simply worked at his craft.  And he has the goods to back up what is happening to him now.

He is a small town kid from Shelton, Washington as well and that is also an issue for the amount of interest he has generated so far.

The point is this.  Take a field and ten Pac 12 Coaches.  Put the 10 top kids out there with their transcripts, their resumes, their film, and their measurables.  Then put them through their paces and test their ability.  David Ajamu would be in the top group at the end of that process and probably a 10 offer guy.

So this means Sleeper.  Major sleeper.  

The OSU offer is only a few days old and still an intriguing one.  It puts David in the PAC 12 at a school where he would be used and where he could play early.  Schools like the Huskies and the Ducks are maybe more of a long shot and probably places where he would be used later in his collegiate career.  But we believe him to be the caliber of player that would push anyone on those rosters as well.

"Nevada called my coach Matt Hinkle and left a message.  So I called them back and they asked me if I wanted to play for them and with Isaac Dotson (Newport HS) who is heading up their next year as a QB," said Ajamu.  "That sounds pretty good so I have an offer there now and will be at Nevada on the 28th of this month for Senior Day and a visit.  Things are heating up."

With the Wolf pack offer he has four offers.  Oregon State, Portland State, and Wyoming has offered too.

"Shelton has put out some good football players.  David is going to be another one," said Coach Hinkle.  "He is the first one in the weight room, has been a 3 year starter for us, and is a good student.  More then that he is a good kid who is mature and humble.  Oregon State was most impressed about that which meant a lot to know that they have invested time to get to know about Shelton and David too.  He started at offensive tackle for us as a Sophomore not because he wanted to but because we needed him to.  Then we moved him to receiver and tight end and he plays defense too of course.  He is a physical kid who is benching close to 300 pounds and who has soft hands and good speed.  So he can play with the best of them and will be an asset wherever he goes."

Hinkle says the team is coming out of a 3 or 4 year funk they have been in and that he is looking forward to this year as he has two tough backs and with the now bigger Ajamu they can do some things to get him in situations to succeed and help the team.

"I am open to whoever would like to offer me a shot.  That could be the Pac 12 or somewhere else.  Right now things are happening fast and it is time for me to take it all in and focus on my team too," concluded David.

So for schools in need of a kid this is one who seems to be a consensus pick.  He is rising fast and it will be fun to see what the next few months bring to this hard working kid from the Evergreen State!
