Hafner belts 200th career home run

Joining the illustrious 200 home run club, former Cowley College standout Travis Hafner belted his 200th career home run in the Cleveland Indians' 10-8 loss to the Detroit Tigers Sunday in Detroit.

The home run for Hafner came just days after the birth of his second child.

"Hitting his 200th career home run and having a new baby, that's a pretty good week," Cowley head coach Dave Burroughs said.

Hafner went 3-for-5 with a home run and three runs batted in Sunday and is batting .320 with three home runs and five RBIs over the past seven games. He has 11 home runs in only 60 games played this season.

Hafner ranks 300th on Major League Baseball's all-time home run list and with one more home run will tie former Kansas City Royals manager Buddy Bell and 1972 World Series MVP, Gene Tenace of the Oakland A's on the all-time list.



Hafner led the Cowley College baseball team to the first of back-to-back national championships in 1997 and was named a Third-Team All-American. He still holds the school-record for runs batted in in a season (82), runs batted in in a career (161), doubles in a season (21), and doubles in a career (36).
