After being rolled by Columbus last week, Northeast wanted to show people they were a good team. They wanted to show themselves they could come out and dominate a team they were supposed to dominate.

Northeast's defense forced five turnovers and its special Teams had a blocked punt and blocked field goal as the Hurricanes (1-0) blasted past Coral Springs 48-6 at Northeast Thursday night.

It was worse than the final score indicated.

Northeast's defense was so good that Coral Springs didn't get past midfield until the final three minutes of the game with the exception of when Coral Springs actually took possession on Northeast's side of the 50-yard line.

Safety Zeffrey Clark had a pair of interceptions and Charlie James went for the trifecta on one play when he had a blind side sack, forced fumble and fumble recovery for touchdown which gave Northeast a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

He also had a second fumble recovery as the defense shut the Colts down never giving way until the Colts (0-1) scored with 48 seconds to play.

The offense took advantages throughout the game on great field position set up by the Hurricanes defense. Stacy Coley caught a 36-yard touchdown pass and had a 23-yard rushing touchdown on a reverse while senior fullback Timonte King rushed 18 times for 102 yards and a touchdown. Running back Jamal Wallace also added a pair of touchdown runs while rushing for 50 yards on eight carries.

The key was early though as the 'Canes defense was simply all over the field led by James and Jesse Mann who made a living in the backfield.

After losing to Coral Springs last year with seven players suspended it was evident that Northeast had thoughts of revenge in store in this one.

"The defense played really well tonight. They forced turnovers and we took advantage of them," Coley said.
