Boyd Anderson had no trouble dispatching of Dillard in both teams' season opener Friday night at Boyd Anderson as the Cobras rolled past the Panthers 28-7.

The Cobras (1-0) jumped out to an 14-0 lead in the second quarter behind the arm of Gregory Hankerson who was 16 for 30 for 298 yards two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. Hankerson hit Raynard Warren to open the scoring with a five-yard touchdown pass.

He later found Richard Lopez on a 30-yard touchdown pass down the middle of the field taking a 14-0 lead into the break.

The Cobras could have blown it open at any time, but allowed the Panthers to hang around for most of the game. The second half was played in the middle of the field for much of the time with neither team mounting much offensive attack.

The second half was so bad that at two different occasions in the fourth quarter, a twirling baton was found on the field, left behind during the halftime show.

Hankerson dove in from a yard out for a touchdown one play after hitting Mitchell Jones with a 59-yard pass that set up the score. Eddie Jackson picked off Lee Martin and returned it seven yards for a touchdown giving Boyd Anderson a 28-0 lead one play after Hankerson's touchdown run.

Jackson had a monster game with two interceptions. He would have had a third, but it was called back because of a penalty. He also hauled in a 58-yard pass early in the game.

The outcome could have been far worse, if not for a plethora of mistakes by Boyd Anderson's offense, including at least six dropped passes. The Cobras got down the field in one play on their first possession, but the next three passes to the end zone, albeit completed were ruled incomplete because they were caught out of bounds.

Dillard (0-1) struggled to move the ball throughout the game hitting on a few passes here and there, but never anything consistent. The Panthers only score came in the final three minutes on a bad snap that the Panthers' Christian Bouie recovered in the end zone.

Martin led Dillard with 133 yards passing, but he was a paltry 10 for 31 with two interceptions.
