EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - As the sports community focused its on international competition and the Olympics this summer, one Southern Illinois University Edwardsville basketball player was more than a spectator.

Incoming transfer Grant Fiorentinos was part of Great Britain's under 20 National Team playing at the European Championships held in Sofia, Bulgaria, in July.

Fiorentinos averaged 5.4 points and 2.9 rebounds a game in eight games this summer for Great Britain. He scored 18 points in Great Britain's loss to the Czech Republic on July 19.

This summer marked the fourth time Fiorentinos has competed in international competition. He also has been a part of the under-16 and under-18 (twice) teams.

Fiorentions comes to SIUE after spending his freshman season at Tulane. The native of Cape Town, South Africa, played high school basketball at the Hunn School in Princeton, N.J., where he averaged 14 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 blocks per game during his prep career.

Fiorentinos was ranked 37th in the Class of 2011 by NJ Hoops.
