BRIGHTON BEACH, NY - Abraham Lincoln was able to get the #1 seed in the Ball by the Beach Back 2 School Invitational at Kingsborough CC.

They did a good job of running through every team until they finally had some adversity in the semi-finals. Still, they were able to win that game and advance to the final. That's where Lincoln's run ended. That's when they got smacked by Believe Prep.

Believe Prep dominated the game when the second half started, opening up a double digit lead and pulling away for an 80-53 win. It did appear Lincoln was a little tired and they didn't seem like they were "into it" from the time the game tipped off.

Believe Prep jumped out to a 26-8 lead and Lincoln never came close to taking the lead.

Believe Prep, which is located in Rock Hill, South Carolina but has players from New York such as MVP Shadell Millinghaus (19 points), played one less game than Lincoln did. But it doesn't matter because Believe Prep jumped out to a big lead and never trailed. Plus that's the way the tournament was scheduled. Despite the team not playing with as much energy as they played with in other games, there was still a bright spot in Isaiah Whitehead.

Whitehead scored a game high 26 points, including three shots from behind the arc. He also provided the highlight of the day if you are a basketball fan. He was pushing the ball up the floor down the right side of the court. When Whitehead got into the front court, he saw a victim. I guess that can be the only way to describe the poor fellow.
Whitehead took off and leaned in the air.

The Believe player decided to jump with Whitehead which turned out to be a bad idea because he got dunked on. The 6-4 rising junior rose higher than anybody's ever seen him do in public. Whitehead leaned almost parallel to the ground and then he stuffed it through the rim effortlessly with the right hand.

It was one of those "everybody leave the park 'cause that was sick!" moments. It just illustrates how Whitehead is getting stronger on the basketball court as his career develops.

The only other player who got to double digits for Lincoln was 6'7" Michael Vigilance, who finished with 11. Vigilance played well in the first half, converting a number of short lay-ups and using his size. He didn't play as much in the second half, when the game got out of hand.

Lincoln's loss in the final was a far cry from their semifinal win over Wings. Lincoln won that game coming from behind. Whitehead scored 27 points in Lincolns 66-58 victory. They also got a strong game from Eli Davis, who finished with 15 points. In that game Lincoln came back from a 7 point halftime deficit and seized control of the game with a second half 17-3 run. Wings couldn't get the lead back after they gave it up, but they were a tough out. They were led in that game by Mohammed Touray with 15 points.

Wings Outlasts South Shore

Wings was probably involved in the best game of the day, a 56-55 first round overtime thriller against South Shore.

It was a battle for almost the entire game with neither team gaining more than a two field goal advantage. South Shore erased a 4 point deficit and survived a technical foul called with two minutes left in the game.

The winning basket came from rising sophomore Desure Buie, who went down a wide open lane for an uncontested lay-up immediately after two made free throws from Terrence Samuel put South Shore up 55-54.

That just set the stage for Buie's almost anti-climactic drive down the middle of the court. It was anti-climactic because it was so shockingly easily for the sophomore to score with the way the game had been played for 34 minutes. Buie scored a game high 23 points in that first round win over South Shore. Samuel was his teams' high scorer with 21 points, including 4 threes.
