2011 In Review: The Pirates were 5-5, losing to Paramus Catholic in the Non-Public Group 4 playoffs. They scored 257 points for a 25.7 average, while allowing 263 points for a 26.3 average. Wins included Livingston, Bloomfield, and Columbia, while losses included Montclair, East Orange, West Orange, and Morristown.

Departures: QB Sean Maguire - Florida State, RB/LB Rory Merklinger - Peddie (prep), LB Christopher Bruno - Harvard as a walk on, WR/DB Devlin Formey - Muhlenberg

Offense: Seton Hall Prep runs the Wing T and returns seven starters and another who started some games. The quarterback will be senior Pete Burkly (5-foot-9, 160). Fullback has senior Mike Herbert (6-foot-0, 185) and junior Andrew Harmon (6-foot-0, 190), with Herbert starting for half the season. The halfbacks are experienced, with all playing last year. The quartet at the two spots are senior Kevin Taylor (5-foot-8, 160), senior Pat Keyes (5-foot-11, 185), senior Frank Maldonado (5-foot-11, 185), and junior Nasir Austin (5-foot-7, 175).

Returning at split end is senior Clay Austin (5-foot-11, 170) and the tight end will be senior Jim Jannicelli (6-foott-3, 225). Jannicelli missed most of last season with an injury.

Four starters return to the line. Returning are senior left tackle Joe Wightman (6-foot-3, 240), junior left guard Bryan Louis (5-foot-9, 235), senior center Kevin Franko (6-foot-1, 218), and senior right guard Mike Condon (6-foot-3, 245). The right tackle will be senior Alex Salamone (6-foot-2, 240).

Defense: The Pirates run a 4-4 and return four starters and another who started a game. Returning at tackle is junior Joe Tutela (6-foot-0, 245) and junior Sean Morrison (6-foot-1, 255) will play alongside him. The ends will be Jannicelli and sophomore Mike McMenamin (6-foot-1, 215), who started the last game of the season.

The outside linebackers will be junior MJ Mughatto (5-foot-10, 185) and sophomore Cheyenne Robertson (6-foot-2, 220). On the inside, it will be juniors Tommy Young (5-foot-10, 195) and Noah Penders (6-foot-1, 200).

All three return to the secondary, with Taylor and Maldonado back at the corners and Keyes back at safety.

Special Teams: The kicker will be sophomore Brian McSherry and he may also punt, but that position is still open. Austin and Taylor will be the return men.

Question Marks: Having a new quarterback.

Recruiting: Keyes and Maldonado have speed, with interest from the service academies, 1-AA, and D2 schools. Wightman and Condon will play somewhere.

Among juniors, Austin has speed. The others are unproven.
