GAME 1 - Broward Battle

The Skinny: The Raiders (ranked No. 5 in the FVT25) make the list for a second week in a row.

St. Thomas has outscored the Lightning 160-10 in the last four meetings. Both teams won last week, as Cypress Bay (ranked No. 9) handled Deerfield Beach 29-7 while Aquinas beat catholic school rival Columbus 38-28.

The game features a quick-strike offense for the Raiders vs. a fast-moving pursuit defense for Cypress Bay.

vs
ST THOMAS AQUINAS
CYPRESS BAY
Prediction: ST THOMAS AQUINAS
Players to watch:

Cypress Bay; RB Matt Dayes, (North Carolina State), DB Boaz Joseph, WR Alex Montgomery (Wake Forest), OL Jason Rae (Florida International), DB Nico Marley (Tulane) ATH Jaranta Lewis.

St. Thomas Aquinas; Joey Bosa (Notre Dame), LB Lance Virgile, RB Fred Coppet, OL Zach Provin (Colgate), OL Austin Bland (Florida Atlantic), OL Kyle Schafenacker (Connecticut), DB James Crawford, Franklyn Richardson, QB John O'Korn, (Houston), WR Mark Barr.

THE OUTLOOK: St. Thomas Aquinas has dominated this series - winning every game going away in the last four years. The Lightning are a playoff contender in 8A consistently, but may have a mental block over playing the Broward County rival.

The fourth quarter QB play of O'Korn won the game for the Raiders last week. Coppet, Richardson and Barr are bigtime weapons - and the OL provided O'Korn with plenty of time to look downfield.

Cypress Bay has got to get pressure on O'Korn and stuff the running of Coppet. Dayes has got to get the tough yards and keep the chains moving - while keeping the Raider offense off the field. Marley and company will be tested early - and if the passing game clicks for STA - it will be a long day for Cypress Bay.
