Through the first three weeks, the feel-good story of the season has to be Plymouth Salem. Sharing a campus with powerhouse programs like Plymouth and Canton can't be easy, especially when you play the role of the whipping boy. It's been more than ten years since the Rocks have won more than three games, but something seems different this year. With their win over Novi tonight, Salem is now 3-0 and they are playing some good football.

"This feels really good," said Salem Coach Kurt Britnell. "We still have plenty to work on, but this is great for our kids. "

While Novi dominated certain stats, Salem had the game in hand from beginning to end. The Rocks opened up the scoring in the 1st quarter on a 27-yard run by junior Drake Jordan. Jordan has been on fire this season, scoring 7 TDs in the first three games, but a bad flu bug kept him sidelined most of the game.

The score was only 7-0 at the half, and it would have been a completely different game if Novi didn't implode every time they got into the red zone.

Midway through the 3rd quarter, Salem QB Jake Deprez hooked up with Mike Hoover for a 43-yard TD pass. The 2-point conversion failed, so Salem was up 13-0.

In the 4th quarter, Ga'Woin Ingram stepped up big time for Salem. He scored his first of two TDs to put the Rocks up 20-0. He scored another late in the quarter on a 35-yard run.

The bright spot of the night for Novi was sophomore RB Jeff Baker who ran for 172 yards and 2 TDs. Baker rushed for over 100 yards last week as well, so this kid is legit. He runs with both power and shiftiness, and has enough speed to break out of the pack. One of his TD's was a 62-yard scamper and the other was a 40-yarder. Unfortunately, both were too little, too late because they really didn't matter except to make the final score look slightly more respectable.

Novi had more total offense than Salem and dominated the time of possession, but they just couldn't come up with stops and made unforced errors at inopportune moments in the game.

Salem's Ivan Rhodes led all defensive players with 8 tackles, and sophomore Matt Sabo had 7 for Novi. Stud junior kicker Alex Kendrick drilled a 24-yard field goal for Salem. Kendrick is an absolutely outstanding kicker, and will end up being one of the best in the Class of 2014.

Salem faces defending league champion Northville next week for what very well could be the division championship. Novi looks for their first win against South Lyon East next week.
