ROYAL PALM BEACH, FL ? Eight teams, including two-time Class 1B state champion Jupiter Christian and 2008 Class 2A runner-up Miami Gulliver Prep, as well as perennial powerhouse Glades Central, have already committed to play in the fourth annual Heath Evans Foundation 7-on-7 Championships.

The invitation-only, 16-team tournament, which benefits the Heath Evans Foundation, is scheduled for Saturday, June 20 at 9 a.m. at The King's Academy.

The field will also include Class 4A semifinalist Dwyer, which features top Division I prospect Matt Elam, Class 6A semifinalist Miramar and Class 5A regional finalist Mainland of Daytona Beach. Naples, which reached the Class 3A regional final, and Boyd Anderson, which reached the Class 6A regional final, have also accepted invitations to participate.

Jupiter Christian is the defending tournament champion while Glades Central won the inaugural event in 2006. Pahokee won the 2007 title.

Evans said several NFL players, including Randy Moss, Matt Cassel and Vince Wilfork, are expected to attend the tournament, providing tips to the high school players and watching the competition.

"This tournament is a showcase for many of the best football players in Palm Beach County and around Florida, something that wasn't available when I played," said the eight-year NFL veteran Evans, who grew up in Palm Beach Gardens and graduated from The King's Academy before attending Auburn University. "This is a great opportunity for the athletes to play against top competition from Palm Beach, Broward and Miami Dade counties, who sends dozens of players to Division I programs every year."

The tournament is open to the public. Tickets are $5 person and available at the gate. The King's Academy is located at 8401 Belvedere Road, approximately one mile east of 441.

Proceeds from this tournament will benefit the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit Heath Evans Foundation, which is dedicated to fostering hope and healing in the lives of children and families affected by sexual abuse. It is committed to breaking the cycle of abuse through healing the psychological, physical, and spiritual wounds inflicted on innocent children; to bring hope and healing to the young victims of sexual abuse.

"Being in the NFL gives me a platform to bring attention to a cause that doesn't receive a lot of attention," said Evans, whose foundation provides access to a variety of programs, treatments and services in communities with great need and scarce resources.

Major sponsors include Hulett Environmental Services, Chik-fil-A and Cheney Brothers.
