RivalsHigh 100 Week One | Vote: Biggest game of Week Two | High School Network

The high school football season is in full swing and this weekend there are a handful of top teir games. Two games in particular feature high profile teams in cross-country match-ups that high school football fans need to keep an eye on in the third week for Weekend Watch 2009.

In New Jersey, the RivalsHigh.com No. 15 team Don Bosco Prep is set to kick off their season against the name-brand team out of California, the De La Salle Spartans. De La Salle enters the game the No. 32 ranked team in the country and has already defeated Serra 14-7 last week to knock off the rust. Don Bosco will sign no less than six players to Division I scholarships and are looking for revenge from last years 23-21 loss in Concord.

On the west coast, fearless 3A Washington power Bellevue will take on the defending Texas 5A Division II state champion Katy. Bellevue gained national attention under coach Butch Goncharoff by ending De La Salle's famed winning streak in 2004 and knocking off Long Beach Poly in 2005. They now turn their focus on beating one of the best from the Lone Star State. Katy, on the other hand, will need this game to stay in the national rankings following a 31-27 loss at the hands of The Woodlands.

Weekend Watch
No. 25 West Monroe v. No. 69 Neville
WHEN: Friday 9/11, 7:30 p.m.
LAST MET: 10/20/00 - West Monroe 35, Neville 0
ALL-TIME SERIES: Neville leads series 39-10-2

KEEP AN EYE ON: A three-mile bus ride is what separates No. 25 West Monroe and No. 69 Neville, but as the crow flies these schools are even closer than that. The twin city region of West Monroe and Monroe has circled this game for over a year now and the countdown to rumble has just a few days remaining. The Rebels-Tigers matchup is for pure pride and bragging rights, it will also go a long way into preparing both of these teams for what promises to be deep postseason runs in their respective classes come playoff time. It is only Week Two, but it gets no better in Northeast Louisiana with arch-rivals meeting, long after their wars in the old District 2-5A. In the years before West Monroe's emergence as a national power in the 1990s, Neville was the Monroe area's traditional power, so this contest is not only a clash between two talented teams of today, but it also represents clash between two eras of Northeast Louisiana high school football.

STAR POWER: West Monroe features the state's No. 1 defensive lineman from the Class of 2010 in defensive end Jordan Allen (6-6, 265), an LSU commit, and a sure fire contender for that crown for the Class of 2011 in defensive tackle Chuck Hunter (6-1, 280). Needless to say they anchor another outstanding defensive line for the Rebels. West Monroe also features a stellar offensive line led by Dillon Day (6-4, 265) and behind him look for junior QB Paul Turner (5-11, 184) to continue to do a good job in his first year as a starter. Neville features Louisiana Tech commit QB Taylor Burch (6-3, 220), who has a strong arm and a talented receiving corps that features Jeremy Runner (5-10, 190), Ian Levine (5-11, 160), Brandon Calhoun (6-1, 195), among others. Neville's defensive line features big DT Simeon Stevenson (6-0, 255) and DE Duke Guillory (6-0, 235), but the unit is led by standout LB Waderrious Sellers (5-10, 200).

BEST MATCHUP: : Neville QB Taylor Burch and his receivers against the West Monroe secondary. Burch passed for 218 yards and three touchdowns last week against an athletic Ouachita secondary. The Rebels rolled over Leesville 71-13 last week, but two big pass plays went for scores because of a blown coverage or simply being beat on the play, one was for 43 yards and the other from 73 yards out. Burch's receiving corps is rather experienced, but freshman John Diarse had his coming out party with a 4-catch, 148-yard evening that included two touchdowns.

PREDICTION: With 22 returning lettermen, 30 seniors and a standout quarterback in Taylor Burch back from a torn ACL, this year has been one of great expectation for the Neville Tigers. This could be the year that they once again contend for a state championship. Last week rival Ouachita jumped out to an early lead, but Neville came back. In the meantime, West Monroe had its way with a far weaker opponent. Neville gets the edge in virtually every matchup, expect one: the line of scrimmage. Neville traditionally performs well with undersized linemen, but on this night, West Monroe will dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. West Monroe 28, Neville 17.

Weekend Watch
No. 56 Bellevue v. No. 59 Katy
WHEN: Saturday 9/12 7:00 pm
LAST SEASON: Katy won Texas 5A Division II state title. Bellevue won Washington Class 3A title.

KEEP AN EYE ON: Bellvue runs a Wing-T offense that you simply have to see to believe. No team in the nation executes this unbalanced run oriented attack like they do. The Wing T uses deception and power off tackle to create mismatches. Every team will say they are ready for this offense and will claim to have a solution. Bellvue is so very balanced and run counters, off tackle, and a punishing middle attack in a combination that creates first downs and scoring opportunitites. Katy agreed to play a powerhouse like Bellevue because the Tiger's are familiar with the Wolverines' Wing-T. Katy coach Gary Joseph said however that the Tigers will have their hands full.

PLAYER'S TO WATCH: The Tigers have a strong running game with backs Will Jeffery and Vernon Jeffries. The Belleuve offense features a punishing running attack led by senior David Ngyuen. Win is a strong 5-foot-9 and checks in around 185-pounds. He is very fast and runs hard to the holes and can cut back against the grain at will. Both teams play with more of a team concept and the "star power" of this game comes in the names on the front of the jersey not the back.

BEST MATCHUP: The entire game is a great matchup and may be the best matchup you can find between two public schools west of the Mississippi. The game could be determined by Katy's ability to stop the offense. The Tiger defense was not as impressive against The Woodlands in week two as they were in the season opener by allowing a a 77-yard, fourth-quarter touchdown run to heralded 2011 running back Daniel Lasco last week. Look for the lineplay to determine the winner.

PREDICTION: Football fans can expect a very good game. Both teams are well coached and that will play a factor. Bellevue head coach Butch Goncharoff was named Coach of the Year by the AP in 2001, and is now in his 15th season at BHS. In 2004 and 2003 he was also named the Riddell National Coach of the Year. Combining the homefield advantage with great coaching gives Bellevue the edge. Bellevue 16, Katy 9.

Weekend Watch
No. 31 De La Salle v. No. 15 Don Bosco
WHEN: Saturday 9/12, 7:00 pm
LAST MET: 09/27/08 De La Salle won 23-21.

KEEP AN EYE ON: The Spartans are still looking for an answer at quarterback between juniors Travis Pacos and Scott Herting and sophomore Bart Houston after their opener last week. Herting was the top performer out of the group, but it will be interesting to see who head coach Bob Ladouceur starts the game with and how the rotations progress within the game. Don Bosco will be playing their first real game of the season after the exhibition season. Last year this was the Ironmen's third game but the cross-country trip wore on them.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Running back Terron Williams-Ward has taken over the full time duties at running back this year and rushed for 100 yards and had two total touchdowns in the Spartans' 14-7 win over Serra last week. He will pair with running back Tyler Anderson to form a talented running duo. On defense, junior defensive end Charles Dylan Wynn is a game changer with his athleticism and strength. Don Bosco already has six players on defense commited to playing football in college and are probably strongest at the linebacker position led by Steele Divitto and Ryan Cobb.

BEST MATCH-UP: Depending on how many times they lock up during the game, the battle between Don Bosco Prep offensive tackle Brandon Sacco (6-foot-4, 255 pounds) and De La Salle defensive end Charles Dylan Wynn (6-foot-2, 230 pounds) will be fun to watch as both are Division I prospects. Sacco is verbally committed to Pittsburgh and Wynn is one of the top players in Northern California for the class of 2011.

PREDICTION This was a close, physical game a year ago in Concord where Don Bosco Prep won 23-21. You should expect much the same game this year in New Jersey. De La Salle is still working out the quarterback position and has a lack of weapons on the outside. Those holes combined with a very talented opposition tip the scales heavily to the side of Don Bosco. Playing at home also helps as the Ironmen pull away in the second half. Don Bosco 24, De La Salle 10.
