MORE: San Antonio (Texas) coach tabbed for the West squad | Top 100 High School football teams

Maryville, Tenn. - The U.S. Army All-American Bowl has named George Quarles of Maryville (Tenn.) High School as the head coach for the East squad. He will lead the East against against the West on Saturday, January 9, 2009 at 1:00 PM (EST) at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Rivals.com, the official selection partner of the game, high school football expert Dallas Jackson says that Quarles is very deserving of the honor.

"Coach Quarles has been a driving force for the sustained success of the Maryville program," Jackson said. "He is one of the best and most successful coaches in the country."

As head coach of the Red Rebels, Quarles has accumulated a career record of 137-10, and led the school to seven state championships in 2000-2002 and from 2004-2007. They also advanced to the Tennessee 4A Championship Game in 2008.

Under Quarles' leadership, Maryville also had a 74-game undefeated streak, which was the nation's longest in football when it was ended in the playoffs last season.

The game will be televised live on NBC and is considered the premier All-American high school football game.

This classic East vs. West match-up features some of the nation's best high school football players.

Since its inception, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl has been a launching pad for America's future college and NFL stars.

Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Adrian Peterson and Brady Quinn all made their national debuts as U.S. Army All-Americans.

The 2008 U.S. Army All-American Bowl set an attendance record of 36,534 and garnered a 1.8 rating on NBC, making it the most-watched sporting event-other than the NFL playoffs-for that weekend.
