Schmitt is a tall, good-looking athlete who showcases a thick upper body and good bend in his lower half. He has decent athletic ability when asked to get outside the pocket but certainly isn't a threat to run away from anyone - although he can pick up a first down when needed. He does a nice job buying time in the pocket, breaking containment and keeping his eyes downfield. He showcases good accuracy and touch on the move. He generates solid torque from his lower half on throws outside his frame and showcases natural bend for the position. Schmitt lacks ideal arm strength but has the confidence to put good zip on the ball in the short/intermediate pass game. He displays a smooth release but has a tendency to short-arm throws in the face of pressure and isn't accurate when asked to throw the deep ball downfield.
