| McClellan is an undersized defensive end prospect who lacks natural power in his base and can get engulfed at the point of attack in the run game. He struggles to sit into his stance and anchor on contact. He's easily turned away/sealed from the ball. But he possesses some natural explosion, coils into his stance well and exhibits a good first step. He plays with natural leverage and does a nice job keeping his pad level low when slanting down inside and shooting the C gap toward the ball. He lacks much of a punch on contact and struggles to be a factor on his bull-rush but uses his hands and length well to keep himself clean. He displays the lateral quickness to sidestep blocks inside and work toward the ball. McClellan possesses good closing speed in pursuit and has a nose for the ball. He has above-average closing speed when asked to reach the corner but allows his pad level to get too high when trying to flatten out. He displays the body control to cleanly change directions and uses his length to slip blocks, but again, he's too high to cleanly redirect and close. He possesses an intriguing skill set but as a possible 3-4 rush linebacker. He can't play the run as a down defensive lineman, but his lateral quickness and ability to slip blocks off the edge will give him a chance to make a roster. | Scouting report provided by National Football Post. |
